Velvet VII

-“You must return that entity to where it belongs; you feed darkness with every deed performed that goes against you!

It often happens that some entities are drawn to those with light, yet you were vulnerable for attack because you acted out of spite. We will go to a priest tomorrow morning after mass.”

-“I hope so Carmen, I can’t sleep well at night, afraid that it will attack me, or take control of me.” Beatriz said downcast.

Sighing and looking up at the cloudy sky, Carmen says: - “There is always a struggle between light and dark. It just seems that nowadays, evil seems to have the upper hand.

If you follow the front page news one gets the paper with almost the anticipation of dread. The norm being, white-knuckled frights which just don’t seem to let up - one after another - like a never ending rollercoaster.

In the English version, it is usually the deep despair due to the downcast economy, or the conflict in the Middle East.
In Spanish news, its how lawlessness prevails in Mexico, with shootouts, and decapitated bodies found almost on a daily basis. Sadly, there are always innocents’ slaughtered in the process.

-“The only news I can stomach is in the Hollywood gossip rags. I am overwhelmed with people asking for a handout – with the wretches which prevail. I have my own shit to deal with, and if drug cartels want to kill each other off - who cares?

The world is sickened, pissed off, and running out of resources. It is over populated!” Beatriz said while folding her arms in a defiant stance.

-“Take a good look at you Beatriz. I see embodied much of what ails the world today: Over indulgence in vice and consumerism in a frantic search for validation and self-worth.

I also see the worship of false idols; the loss of the moral compass, erosion of individuality, and too much apathy to make a change.” Carmen reminded her.

-“What difference does it make? What can one person do to make a change?”

-“It’s very simple really. Just imagine if we all adhered – without exception- to the honor system, and we decided to treat each individual just as we expect to be treated in return. You can start with yourself you know.

Just be a bit more tolerant to those who are slower, older, or those simply different than you.

-“Perhaps you are delusional Carmen. When it comes down to it, it is the survival of the fittest. Look at the news, man reacts to brute force, not dialogue.” Beatriz laced her comment with malice.

-“Listen to this old woman Beatriz, perhaps it’s not too late to emulate the children, and learn to play and share with others without the taint of prejudice poisoning our thoughts and actions." Carmen counsels.
