Larry posted an ad in the classifieds worded: “Checking out of Hotel California…I am leaving for good, am giving away my personal belongings and furniture...only this weekend from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.”
He made the mistake of putting his home number too, as well as his address. He received a deluge of calls inquiring what he was giving away, or asking him to save a particular item for that person. On the appointed date, his friends had helped him set outside the front yard a makeshift yard sale, except this one posted a sign saying it was all for free.
In those two days, Larry practically vacated his home. Most of the furniture and the majority of his clothes, the treadmill he hardly ever used, and DVD collection were given away. The rest of the remaining stuff, would be collected by The Salvation Army truck on Monday morning.
One man with an old pick up said he had just moved to California, and needed a refrigerator for his family. He practically hauled that thing himself. When parting, he asked Larry what he meant by checking out of Hotel California. In a matter-of-fact tone, Larry replied he was dying in about five and a half months. The man was stumped for a reply. He simply said he was sorry and left.
There was also a mother with small children gathering everything from plates, utensils, to bed covering. Larry saw the hard times etched upon the faces of most of the people gathering as much as they could travel with, and he was glad that his loss was their gain. He was satisfied he had done a good deed.
Melanie was elated she had been able to get two weeks off from work. She had lied that she had an ill relative in another state and had to travel to see her. Well, in reality she was not really lying she thought. Next Tuesday morning, they were on flight to Cancun, Mexico. The flight was entertained by multiple kissing, hard drinking, and a quickie inside the compact sized bathroom cabinet.
At the summit of the airplane’s stairway, Larry was caressed by the warm breeze, brilliant sun, and scent of fresh, clean air. He could make out the azure, crystal clear waters of the Mexican peninsula; the waves lasciviously licking the white sand. This moment, he felt a sense of peace and simple contentment - and new found joy.

Larry’s senses seemed to have become heightened. He savored the succulent flesh of a ripe mango with gusto. The hotness, and crunchy texture of fresh salsa exploded in his mouth. He thoroughly enjoyed every bite and variation of the magnificent buffet spread, until he was completely satiated.
.
He decided to sneak a few ripe mangoes in his back pack. He planned to scrub Melanie's body with the peeled Mangoes all over, and retrieve the sweet juice and pulp with his tongue...on second thought he also bagged a few oranges as well.
Life was good. Whatever was left of it.
