Hotel California XI

On his last trip out to sea with Juan, Larry sat down to read the multiple letters and e-mails he had received from people who had long ago and recently, formed part of his life. He felt touched reading the words of support, love, and congratulations on his wedding.

After Larry’s visit to the curandera, he decided to write to everyone he knew, or could be located. He actually did so after his wedding, sending to those, whom he had physical address, or e-mail of, a picture of Lupita and himself. Basically, he wrote the same letter to everyone, admonishing them to “Live life to the fullest, for it is much too brief and fragile like the flame of a burning candle, which eventually will snuff out.”

Sensing that was his last trip out to sea, he thanked Juan for his friendship, and asked him to look out for Lupita from time to time, and for his family to visit her house on occasion.
He also asked for one last favor. He asked to be cremated (he had already made the arrangements), and for his ashes to be dispersed out to sea, at the distance where they had usually gone out for deep sea fishing.
When Juan asked why he did not want be buried properly so they could take flowers to his grave, Larry replied:

- “I have grown to love this amazing ocean, and its inhabitants. There is such a wondrous world under the surface. I want to become part of the sea where my child and Lupita will one day swim in, and nurture from the generous bounty of.”

Melissa’s lunch crowd had been particularly busy and demanding. Sometimes she got the customers from hell at her station. When it was almost the end of her shift, and she picked up the tab from a table where a man was sitting, she was surprised to find an envelope addressed to her name along the credit card and bill. As she was making the transaction for the credit card payment, she quickly tore open the envelope. Its contents carried a letter from Larry, as well as a cashier’s check made out to her name for $25,000.
After reading the letter where Larry expressed his caring for her, and wished her well, as well as urged her to live her life to the fullest, Melissa went to sit at the table of the man who had placed the envelope there.

He said to be a long time friend of Larry, and that his friend along with his home owner’s insurance, had also bought a life insurance policy a long time ago. He was in charge of his finances, and he had been bestowed the responsibility of dispersing as Larry had directed, portions of the sum of the policy, with the main portion to be placed in a trust fund for his child. Melanie was speechless, and saddened too that Larry had passed away.
He excused himself, and said he needed to make another visit. His next visit was to see Joe.

Whenever Lupita feels particularly nostalgic and sad, she likes to sit at the edge of the shore where the foam of the ocean waves playfully tickles her feet. She also likes to contemplate the setting of the sun.
